I am a doctor, proudly working on the front-line of the NHS. My passion for writing began in my teens when I wrote about the experiences of my Chinese takeaway upbringing. Since then, I have balanced my passion with my job, writing on the commute, in between clinics and even scribbling the odd idea during hectic night shifts. I hope to bring a smile to people’s faces with my stories, particularly during this difficult time.
About Night Shift
I had just arrived at a cardiac arrest call when a second call went out. Short of hands, I began to wonder what would happen if this trend continued throughout the night. How many would die? This daunting shift became the stimulus for my story and the medical registrar on call that night, my protagonist.
About The Takeaway Kid
The Takeaway Kid was great fun to write. A coming-of-age novel which in some ways reflects my own upbringing. Some of the anecdotes regarding customer interactions within the story are true incidents that spurred me to escape the life behind a Chinese takeaway counter. Essentially, The Takeaway Kid is a story written by a takeaway kid, about a takeaway kid, who tries to get free from the takeaway life. I managed to do it, I guess the question is – will Ken Jin?
